The F-14 Tomcat is a supersonic, twin-engine, variable sweep wing, two-place fighter designed to attack and destroy enemy aircraft at night and in all weather conditions. The Tomcat is equipped with the AWG-9 weapons control system that enables the fighter to track and lock up 24 separate targets up to 103 miles away. The AWG-9 control system, along with the Phoenix, Sidewinder and Sparrow missile systems make the F-14 Tomcat the superior air-to-air combat platform. The swept wing design enables the Tomcat to jump from close-in aerial combat to supersonic speed in a matter of seconds.
The 'Bombcat' is a F-14 configured in an air-to-ground strike mode. Attaching the Lockheed Martin LANTIRN (Low Attack Navigation and Targeting Infra-red for Night) targeting pod to the F-14 gives it a FLIR (Forward Looking Infra-Red) camera for night operations and a laser target designator to direct LGBs (Laser Guided Bombs) to their targets.
This 1:72 scale die-cast F-14 'Bombcat' is part of the Witty Wings' Sky Guardians series. It is approximately 10 inches long with a swept-back wingspan of 6 inches. It features the paint scheme and markings of a 'Felix Bombcat' aircraft from VF-31.
