The U.S. TBF/TBM Avenger Torpedo Bomber was the most successful torpedo bomber used by the United States during World War II. It was the heaviest single-engine plane of World War II, and had a crew of three - a pilot, turret gunner, and radioman/bombardier/ventral gunner. Models produced by Grumman carried the TBF designation, and models produced by General Motors carried the TBM designation. The Avenger introduced the wing-folding mechanism designed to minimize the aircraft's footprint on aircraft carriers.
This highly detailed 1:72 scale version of the U.S. TBM-3 Avenger depicts the FT28 plane flown by Lt. Charles Taylor, who was the Flight Leader of the famous Flight 19 that disappeared over the Bermuda Triangle during an Over-Water Navigation and Bombing Training Exercise on December 5th, 1945.
This U.S. TBM-3 Avenger is part of Hobby Master's Air Power Series. The 1:72 scale die cast metal vehicle is approximately 7 inches long with a 9 inch wingspan, and includes detailed features such as a moving propeller and wheels. The aircraft also comes with a display stand.
