The German Sd. Kfz. 138/2 Jagdpanzer 38(t) Hetzer Tank Destroyer utilized the chassis from the Czechoslovakian Panzer 38(t) tank, and was designed to be more cost effective and simpler to maintain than the more complex Jagdpanther and Jagdtiger vehicles. The Jagdpanzer 38(t) succeeded the Marder III tank destroyer, and was introduced in 1944.
The Jagdpanzer 38(t) was produced in large numbers, and provided mobile anti-armor support to German infantry divisions. If was generally reliable, and its small size allowed it to be easily concealed so that it could ambush enemy tanks.
The German Jagdpanzer 38(t) Hetzer Tank Destroyer featured a 75 mm gun that could destroy tanks such as the Russian T-34 at a reasonable range.
