The German Ar 196 was the standard aircraft of the Kriegsmarine (German Navy) throughout World War II. The dual-float reconnaissance aircraft was built by the German firm Arado, and it entered service in 1938. Starting with the A-2 model, the aircraft had shackles for two bombs and was equipped with two 20 mm cannons in the wings and a MG 17 machine gun in the cowling.
