The German Panzer 38(t) tank was designed and manufactured in Czechoslovakia. After the German takeover, Germany decided to continue production and it entered service as the German Panzerkampfwagen 38(t), or Panzer 38(t).
The Panzer 38(t) featured a 37 mm Skoda A7 gun and a 7.92 mm machine gun. It was considered superior to the older Panzer I and Panzer II tanks, and comparable to the Panzer III. Production of the Panzer 38(t) tanks continued until the middle of the war, when it was decided to stop production because the turret was too small to hold the larger guns required to engage newer tanks such as the T-34. Because the chassis of the Panzer 38(t) was so reliable, it was used for a variety of other vehicles, including the Marder and Hetzer tank destroyers and the Flakpanzer 38(t) anti-aircraft gun.
Many Panzer 38(t) tanks were converted to tank destroyers in the middle of the war, utilizing their reliable chassis for the Hetzer and Marder series of tank destroyers, and the removed turrets from the tanks were used in fortifications across Europe.
Replicating 'Red 214', a Panzer 38(t) tank employed by the 7th Panzer Division in the Berezina River Sector on the Eastern Front in 1941, this pre-assembled and pre-painted metal and plastic model from Blitz 72 features a rotating turret with an elevating 37mm gun, realistic tracks, authentic markings, and more!
This die-cast 1:72 scale Panzer 38(t) medium tank is approximately 2.5 inches long and includes a removable terrain base with a clear protective cover.
