U.S. F-105D Thunderchief - 355th TFW, Thailand, 1967
The F-105 Thunderchief supersonic fighter-bomber was originally designed for high-speed, low-level penetration to deliver a nuclear bomb, and was the largest single-engine fighter ever used by the U.S. Air Force. The F-105 Thunderchief flew over 20.000 combat missions during the Vietnam War, and could carry a larger bomb load than the large four engined strategic bombers of World War II such as th B-17. The F-105 was originally a single seat aircraft, but a two seat Wild Weasel variant was later developed for use in the suppression of enemy air defenses.
This 1:72 scale die-cast U.S. F-105D Thunderchief is part of the Hobby Master 1:72 Air Power Series. It is approximately 11.5 inches long with a wingspan of 6 inches. This plane was flown by Lt. Col. John Piowaty of the 355th TFW, as it was seen over Thailand in 1967 during the Vietnam War. The model has extensive detailing, including features like an opening canopy and an interchangeable undercarriage. The model also includes a full ordnance package and comes complete with a display stand.
