The Nakajima B5N was the standard Japanese torpedo bomber at the start of World War II. Known as the 'Kate' by Allied forces, the B5N sank more Allied ships than any other type of Japanese aircraft. In addition to being used at Pearl Harbor, the B5N2s played the main role in sinking the U.S.S. Lexington at Coral Sea, U.S.S. Yorktown at Midway, and the U.S.S. Hornet at the Battle of Santa Cruz. Late in the war, the Kates were also used for Kamikaze attacks.
The B5N had a crew of three, consisting of a pilot, navigator/bombardier, and radio operator/gunner.
This highly detailed 1:72 scale version of the Japanese Nakajima B5N2 depicts the Commander's Aircraft flown by Lt. Joichi Tomonaga from the Japanese carrier Hiryu during the Battle of Midway on June 4/5 of 1942.
This Japanese Nakajima B5N2 is part of Hobby Master's Air Power Series. The 1:72 scale die cast metal vehicle is approximately 5.5 inches long with an 8.5 inch wingspan, and includes three crew figures and has detailed features such as a moving propeller and wheels, interchangeable canopy and undercarriage, and a detachable torpedo. The aircraft also comes with a display stand.
