*NEW!*
The A-10 Thunderbolt II is the first U.S. Air Force aircraft to be designed exclusively for close air support. More commonly known as the Warthog, the A-10 is also used for forward air control where it coordinates and guides other aircraft as they attack ground targets.
The A-10 is incredibly durable, with triple redundancy in its flight systems. The cockpit is protected by a 900 pound titanium armor 'bathtub', and it was designed to fly even if it loses an engine, one tail, and half of a wing!
The A-10's primary weapon is the 30mm GAU-8/A Avenger Gating gun, which fires large depleted uranium armor-piercing shells with a fire rate of 3900 rounds per minute! The gun is powerful enough to destroy main battle tanks. The A-10 can also carry a large amount of other weapons, and it often equipped with the AGM-65 Maverick air-to-surface missile.
The A-10 was introduced into service in 1977, and saw combat for the first time during the 1991 Gulf War, where it destroyed more than 1000 Iraqi tanks, 2000 military vehicles, 1200 artillery pieces, and two Iraqi helicopters!
This highly detailed 1:72 scale version of the USAF A-10A Thunderbolt II depicts the 'Play Time' aircraft from the 363rd TFS, 354th TFW based at Myrtle Beach AFB in South Carolina in 1991.
This U.S. A-10A Warthog is part of Hobby Master's Air Power Series. The 1:72 scale die cast metal vehicle is approximately 9 inches long with a 9 inch wingspan, and includes features such as detailed graphics and an interchangeable undercarriage. The aircraft includes a complete ordinance package and also comes with a display stand!
