The Grumman F6F Hellcat was a fighter plane descended from the earlier F4F Wildcat, but was a completely new design sharing only a familial resemblance to the Wildcat. Some tagged it as "Wildcat's big brother". The Hellcat proved to be the most successful aircraft in naval history, destroying 5,163 aircraft in service with the US Navy and US Marine Corps, plus 52 with the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm during World War II.
This highly detailed 1:72 scale version of the U.S. F6F-5 Hellcat depicts the aircraft flown by Lt. Commander Roy 'Butch' Voris, the first lead for the Naval Flight Demonstration Team. He selected the F6F-5 as the team aircraft because this was the plane that had made him a WWII ace. The F6F-5 Hellcat became the first 'Blue Angel' aircraft, and their first show was in 1946. The plane's paint scheme was an overall dark blue with the letters and number painted using gold leaf paint.
This U.S. F6F-5 Hellcat is part of Hobby Master's Air Power Series, and is a Limited Edition. The 1:72 scale die cast metal vehicle is approximately 6 inches long with a 7 inch wingspan, and includes detailed features such as a moving propeller and wheels. The aircraft also comes with a display stand.
