The Japanese battleship Yamato was the lead ship of the Yamato class. Commissioned in 1941, the Yamato and her sister ship Musashi were the largest battleships ever constructed. After fighting in several engagements in the Pacific theater during World War II, the Yamato was sent on a suicide attack against the American forces off Okinawa as part of Operation Ten-Go. The Yamato was sunk on April 7th, 1945 after having taken ten torpedo and 7 bomb hits.
The Yamato was 863 feet long, and displaced over 72,000 tons. It had a top speed of approximately 27 knots. It was equipped with nine 18 inch guns, twelve 6 inch guns, twelve 5 inch guns, and 28 anti-aircraft guns and cannons.
This highly detailed 1:700 scale die cast metal version of the USS Missouri from Forces of Valor is approximately 15 inches long.
