U.S. P-39Q Airacobra - Makin Island, 1943
The P-39 Airacobra was one of the main American fighter aircraft in service at the start of World War II. It had an innovative and unusual design, with its V-12 Allison engine mounted in the middle of the fuselage, behind the cockpit, using a driveshaft that passed between the pilot's feet to drive the propeller. This design freed up space for the heavy main armament, which was a 37mm T9 cannon which fired through the center of the propeller hub for maximum stability and accuracy.
The P-39Q was the last version of the Airacobra to be produced and was the most common version of the plane. The P-39Q added a 0.50 inch machine gun mounted in a fairing under each wing, and retained the two fuselage mounted machine guns and the hub mounted 37mm cannon from the previous version.
The 1:32 scale die cast metal aircraft is approximately 11.5 inches long with a 13 inch wingspan, and depicts the aircraft as it was seen over Makin Island in 1943.
This 1:32 scale version of the P-39Q Airacobra is part of Forces Of Valor's Enthusiast Edition series, which is the extremely detailed version of this vehicle.
