U.S. F-51D Mustang - 'Detroit Miss'
Many people consider the P-51 Mustang the best fighter of WWII. Its combination of speed, range, maneuverability, and firepower gave it great versatility. Its use in all major theaters of the war included long range, high altitude escort of Bombers, close air support for ground troops, and photo reconnaissance.
Originally developed by North American Aviation for the British, the Mustang was later ordered in large quantities by the USAAF.
This P-51D depicts the 'Detroit Miss' aircraft flown by Lt. Urban Drew of the 357th FS, 351st FG during World War II.
This 1:72 scale die-cast F-51D Mustang is part of the Witty Wings' Birds of Prey series. It is approximately 5 inches long with a wingspan of 6 inches.
