During the Second World War, the German Army recognized the need for a powerful and mobile tank destroyer, which led to the development of the Marder III series of tank destroyers. These tank destroyers proved to be much more effective than towed anti-tank guns.
The Marder III tank destroyers were reliable and had adequate firepower to destroy light and medium armored tanks and vehicles.
The Marder III Ausf. M, Sd. Kfz. 138 was based on the Panzer 38(t) Ausf. M chassis and was armed with the 75mm PaK 40 anti-tank gun. The fighting compartment was located at the rear of the vehicle. This was the latest variant of the Marder III series, and was also the most produced.
