U.S. F-105D Thunderchief
The F-105 Thunderchief supersonic fighter-bomber was originally designed for high-speed, low-level penetration to deliver a nuclear bomb, and was the largest single-engine fighter ever used by the U.S. Air Force. The F-105 Thunderchief flew over 20.000 combat missions during the Vietnam War, and could carry a larger bomb load than the large four engined strategic bombers of World War II such as th B-17. The F-105 was originally a single seat aircraft, but a two seat Wild Weasel variant was later developed for use in the suppression of enemy air defenses.
This 1:72 scale die-cast U.S. F-105D Thunderchief is part of the Hobby Master 1:72 Air Power Series. It is approximately 11.5 inches long with a wingspan of 6 inches. This plane is from the 6441 TFW, which was stationed at Takhli RTAFB in Thailand in 1965 during the Vietnam War. This is aircraft 61-0183, which was one of eighty F-105D-25-RE series aircraft equipped with conventional warfare modifications. The model has extensive detailing, including features like an opening canopy and an interchangeable undercarriage. The model also includes a full ordnance package and comes complete with a display stand.
