The Messerschmitt Bf 110 was a German twin-engine, three seat heavy fighter. Initially used as a long range strategic fighter in the early phases of World War II, it was used mostly for night fighter operations and as a fighter-bomber during the later phases of the war.
The BF 110 excelled as a night fighter due to its long range, heavy firepower (including rockets), and dedicated radar operator. These 'Zestorer' (Destroyer) aircraft were especially effective as bomber-destroyers, using their heavy firepower to destroy Allied bombers in just seconds.
The Bf 110 'G-4' version was a dedicated night fighter that entered service in late 1942. It received larger engines and was strengthened to accommodate those engines and heavier payloads. It carried factory installed airborne interception radar, greatly enhancing its capabilities as a night fighter.
This highly detailed 1:72 scale version of the German Messerschmitt Bf 110G-4 depicts the aircraft flown by German Ace Major Heinz-Wolfgang Schnaufer, Kommandeur of IV./NJG 1 as seen in the skies over St. Trond in October, 1944. Schnaufer flew 165 missions and had 121 victories - making him the top scoring Nachtjager pilot.
This German Messerschmitt Bf 110G-4 is part of Hobby Master's Air Power Series. The 1:72 scale die cast metal aircraft is approximately 7 inches long with a 9 inch wingspan, and includes detailed features such as a moving propeller and wheels. The aircraft also comes with a display stand.
