U.S. P-400 Airacobra - Guadalcanal, 1942

U.S. P-400 Airacobra - Guadalcanal, 1942 *NEW!*

The P-39 Airacobra was one of the main American fighter aircraft in service at the start of World War II. It had an innovative and unusual design, with its V-12 Allison engine mounted in the middle of the fuselage, behind the cockpit, using a driveshaft that passed between the pilot's feet to drive the propeller. This design freed up space for the heavy main armament, which was a 37mm T9 cannon which fired through the center of the propeller hub for maximum stability and accuracy.

The P-400 was the modified export version of the P-39 originally planned for the RAF. The P-400 designation was derived from the advertised top speed of 400 MPH for the plane. The P-400 was deployed to the Southwest Pacific during World War II.

This die-cast 1:72 scale U.S. P-400 Airacobra is part of the Air Power Series from Hobby Master. It depicts a P-400 from the 347th FG, 67th FS of the 13th U.S. Army Air Force at Guadalcanal in 1942. During a Japanese counter attack to retake Guadalcanal, three P-400s were deployed to assist the Marines. The P-400s made several single file strafing passes and helped stop the attack and repel the Japanese invaders.

This highly-detailed die-cast U.S. P-400 is approximately 5 inches long and has a wingspan of approximately 5.5 inches. It has many detailed features, including a movable propeller, as interchangeable undercarriage, a pilot figure, and interchangeable bomb and fuel tank.
